The Short Story: A strong second half helped secure the Roanoke College field hockey team's 6-1 over Bridgewater College on the road Wednesday evening. Saige Bullock scored the game-winner in the second quarter and Madison Wingerter made two saves to help the Maroons improve to 4-0 in the ODAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Madison Filson scored just 4:54 into the game, unassisted, to put Roanoke ahead 1-0.
  • The Eagles responded at 7:36 with an unassisted goal to level the match at 1-1.
  • Midway through the second quarter Bullock scored her first goal and game-winner at 22:47 as the Maroons led 2-1 at halftime.
  • Roanoke's offense came alive in the third quarter with Lindsey Keyes (36:13 – from Martha Hurley), Bullock (36:41 – from Keyes), and Grace Vernarelli (38:53 – unassisted) to take a commanding 5-1.
  • Hurley added the final goal of the game at 53:33 to give the Maroons the final 6-1 margin of victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Maroons outshot Bridgewater 15-3 while preventing the Eagles from taking one after the first quarter.
  • Roanoke led the hosts in penalty corners 11-1.
