The Lead: The Roanoke men's soccer team opened up the 2020-21 ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament with a quarterfinal trip to Lexington to face Washington and Lee. The Maroons would score less than seven minutes into the match to take an early advantage. The defense would make the lead hold up throughout as the Maroons took down the #2 Generals to advance in the tournament.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke got on the board just 6:57 into the match when Chris Jerrild put a shot just out of the reach of the Generals keeper and into the lower right part of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
  • Five minutes later W&L got a free kick but the shot was high over the goal.
  • The Roanoke defense was able to keep the Generals from getting a shot on goal until the 41:28 mark, with Zach Behe recording his first save of the contest.
  • One minute later, Behe made another save on  header off a free kick and the score would be 1-0 at the break.
  • With just over 24 minutes remaining in the second half, the generals were awarded yet another free kick deep in the Maroons zone. Behe made a diving save to the left post to keep Roanoke in front.
  • With 90 second left to play, the Generals got one last chance with a run down the left side. Joe Carman raced back to push the attacker wide and the shot was off the mark.
  • Behe finished with six saves on the afternoon.

Up next: Roanoke will await the winner of the Randolph-Macon/Guilford match later tonight to see who the Maroons will face in the semifinals.
