Maroons Take Two on Day Three in Florida

The Basics

The Lead: The Roanoke softball team started their third day in Florida with two wins. The first game against the Blue Angels of Mount Mary ended in a 12-1 victory. The second game against the Leopards of Wentworth ended in a 2-0 victory.

Highlights:

  • In the first inning, Rachel Sirbaugh blasted a solo home run over left center field. Morgan Clark reached first on an error by the first basewoman. Clark Scored on a ground ball to the shortstop that was hit by Lilly Burns. Serenity Bishop reached first base by drawing a walk, Shortly after Madison Courts launched a homerun over left center to score Bishop.
  • In the second inning, Sirbaugh launched her second home run of the game over left center to increase the score to 6-0.
  • In the fourth inning, Sirbaugh drew a walk to start off the inning. Clark drove a line drive double into center field scoring Sirbaugh. Keely Hoal launched a triple down the left-field line that scored Clark. Bishop hit a shallow pop fly to left field scoring Hoal.
  • Starting off the fifth inning Alexis Ratcliff pinch hit for Katelyn Craghead and hit a line drive single into right-center field. Carlie Patterson reached first on a fielder's choice to the shortstop. Erin Gorschboth hit a line drive to center field scoring Patterson and Craighead. Hoal hit a hard line drive to left field scoring Gorschboth.

The Lead: The Maroons followed up their game one victory with a 2-0 victory against the Leopards of Wentworth.

Highlights:

  • Meri Bostic started the first inning off with a shallow fly ball to right field which allowed her to reach third base. Bostic scored on a wild pitch to give the maroons a 1-0 lead.
  • After two scoreless innings, Molly Epperson started off the fourth inning with a line-drive single to center field. Morgan Clark pinch-ran for Epperson. Clark scored on a throwing error to first.

By the Numbers:

  • Sirbaugh ended the day with two home runs
  • Bostic and Epperson went 2-3 in game two
