2017 ODAC Baseball Players of the Week

  • Abel Arocho, Shenandoah, Sr., Outfielder
    May 01, 2017
    Arocho, a senior from Glen Burnie, Md., hit safely in all five games for Shenandoah last week as he went 10-for-21 on the way to a .476/.542/.619 slash line. He drove in nine runs on the week, including four RBI in the all-important 8-7 comeback victory over Virginia Wesleyan. Without that win in game two, Shenandoah would not have secured the #1 seed in the ODAC Tournament. Arocho doubled twice in that game, driving in two runs with both knocks including the tying run in the eighth. He came around to score the go-ahead run on the way to the victory. He also drove in four runs in the first game of that series and chipped in another RBI in a 9-5 win over Washington and Lee earlier in the week. For the season, Arocho is .342 with a .429 OBP and .422 SLG. He is third in the league in walks (26), fourth in runs (44), and ninth in hits (55).
  • John Ruhlman, Roanoke, Sr., Starting Pitcher

    Ruhlman, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., picked up a pair of big ODAC wins last week to help Roanoke secure a spot in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Ruhlman started and worked the first five innings in a 3-0 win at Emory & Henry. He have allowed just two hits with a walk while fanning three before leaving the ballgame. Ruhlman took to the hill a second time in a 5-3 victory over Randolph-Macon. He worked eight solid innings, giving up two runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out five. For the season, Ruhlman is 3-5 with a 4.24 earned run average in 76.1 innings of work.
  • Robert Marcelle, Shenandoah, So., Second Base/Outfielder
    April 24, 2017
    Marcelle, a sophomore from Millsboro, Del., helped the nationally top-ranked Hornets collect four victories last week including three ODAC wins. Marcelle went 7-for-13 from the dish with two triples, a homer, seven runs driven in and five more runs scored. He added three walks and two stolen bases to rack up a .538/.667/1.077 slash line. Marcelle had a monster game in SU's 17-10 victory over Eastern Mennonite as he went 4-for-4 with both triples, a homer and six RBI while scoring three runs. He walked and drove in a run in a 16-4 win over Marymount (Va.), and added two hits, a pair of walks, and two stolen bases in the Hornets 5-4 and 4-1 doubleheader sweep at nationally 11th-ranked Randolph-Macon. For the season, Marcelle is hitting .444 with a .592 OBP and .667 slugging percentage.
  • Danny Devereux, Washington and Lee, So., Relief Pitcher

    Devereux, a sophomore from Mount Prospect, Ill., made two appearances for the Generals and picked up a save and a win in two conference outings. Devereux preserved a 7-6 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday, working a perfect ninth frame for his fifth save in the season. He came back to throw 3.2 innings to get the win in a 5-4 triumph over Roanoke. He gave up one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts. Devereux is tied for the ODAC lead in wins with a 7-1 record. His five saves are one off the league lead, while his 1.64 earned run average tops all conference players.
  • Cole Migliorini, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Outfielder
    April 17, 2017
    Migliorini, a junior from Stafford, Va., collected five extra-base hits amongst his nine knocks to help the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 week. Migliorini posted a .563/.632/1.250 slash line as he went 9-for-16 with a double, two triples, two homers, seven runs scored and nine more driven in. He also walked three times and stole a base. Migliorini opened his week with two triples and a pair of RBI in a 13-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan. He doubled and homer in a 10-6 victory over York and then collected three hits with two RBI in a 6-5 setback to Eastern Mennonite. He drilled a three-run shot down the leftfield line in the nightcap at EMU, helping R-MC pull out a 9-7 victory. For the season, Migliorini is hitting .395 with a .493 OBP and an ODAC-best .781 slugging percentage. He leads the league with nine homers and 89 total bases and is fourth in runs scored (38) and triples (4).
  • Colin Morse, Shenandoah, Jr., Starting Pitcher
    April 17, 2017
    Morse, a junior from Vienna, Va., went the distance as Shenandoah to guide Shenandoah to a 3-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney and recover from a 15-7 setback to the Tigers in game one of the weekend series. Morse surrendered two runs on just three hits. He walked four batters, but offset those free passes with a season-high 12 strikeouts that included fanning the side to open the game. He retired seven straight batters at one point, and didn't allow a runner to reach second base after the fifth inning. For the season, Morse is now 7-0 wiht a 2.34 earned run average in 57.2 innings of work. He leads the ODAC with 56 strikeouts.
  • Jeff Butler, Randolph-Macon, So., Second Base
    April 10, 2017
    Butler, a sophomore from Chesapeake, Va., registered three multi-hit games in leading the Yellow Jackets to a pair of conference wins and an additional non-conference victory over nationally 23rd-ranked Christopher Newport. Butler hit 7-for-12 for the week with two doubles, a homer, six runs driven in and three more scored. He also stole a base and moved runners over with four sacrifice hits. Butler opened by going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI in a 12-9 win over CNU. He then went a combined 5-for-9 with a double, homer, two RBI and three runs scored in a 12-8 and 17-0 wins over Lynchburg. For the season, Butler is sixth in the ODAC with a .406 batting average. He leads the league in both stolen bases (15) and sacrifice hits (9) and is fifth with a .491 on-base percentage.
  • Tom Concklin, Washington and Lee, Sr., Starting Pitcher
    April 10, 2017
    Concklin, a senior from Hinsdale, Ill., put together a strong showing as the Generals handed national #1 Shenandoah University just its second loss of the season last week. Concklin fired off the hill for seven frames, giving up one run on five hits to a team that was batting .339 coming into the contest. He did not walk a batter and struck out one in his 76-pitch performance. For the season, Concklin is now tied for the ODAC lead in wins with a 6-1 record. He owns a 2.62 earned run average in 58.1 innings of work. He has fanned 38 and walked just 10 batters.
  • Matt Wasson, Washington and Lee, Sr., Outfielder
    April 03, 2017
    Wasson, a senior from Merion Station, Pa., put together a strong week in the Generals 2-1 showing against ODAC opponents. Wasson went 6-for-13 overall with a .462/.563/1.077 slash line. In a 7-6 win at Bridgewater, he went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks, a run driven in and another run scored. In the opening game against nationally 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon, Wasson became the first General to hit for the cycle since Scott Gosselink in 2006 as his 4-for-5 effort helped W&L to an 11-3 victory. He drove in three runs and scored twice while adding his third walk of the week. He finished his week by hitting safely in a third straight game with a single in a 6-4 setback to R-MC. For the season, Wasson is hitting .310 with a .351 on-base percentage and a .460 slugging percentage. His three triples are tied for fourth in the ODAC.
  • Eli Sumpter, Roanoke, Jr., Pitcher
    April 03, 2017
    Sumpter, a junior from Charlottesville, Va., went the distance against Emory & Henry this week, helping the Maroons to an 8-2 victory over the Wasps. In nine full frames, Sumpter gave up two runs with one earned. He scattered six hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four. For the season, Sumpter is 2-0 with a 1.50 earned run average. He has given up just 10 hits and fanned nine with one walk in 18.0 innings on the hill. Opponents are hitting .161 against him.
  • Anderson Baldy, Washington and Lee, Sr., Designated Hitter/Pitcher
    March 27, 2017
    Baldy, a senior from Tampa, Fla., put together a .615/.706/1.000 slash line as Washington and Lee rattled off four conference victories with sweeps at Eastern Mennonite and against Lynchburg. Baldy went 8-for-13 with a triple, homer and five runs driven in over the four games. He scored seven runs and walked three times to help account for his .706 OBP. Baldy was a major player in the Generals' 11-9 comeback win over EMU in game one. He went 3-for-4 for the game and ripped a game-tying two-run triple in the eighth. He crashed a homer in the nightcap on his way to three more hits in a 15-4 triumph. Against Lynchburg, Baldy had a hit in each game, and reached base three more times with walks as W&L claimed 10-2 and 7-6 victories. He also tossed three innings of relief in game two. For the season, Baldy is hitting .441 with a .548 OBP and a .765 slugging percentage. He is tied for fifth in the ODAC with three homeruns.
  • Nick Bay, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Starting Pitcher
    March 27, 2017
    Bay, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., picked up a pair of wins in his two starts last week, including a conference victory on the road at Guilford. Bay opened with six solid innings in a 9-4 non-conference win at Mary Washington. He gave up three runs with one earned on just one hit. He walked five batters and off-set those with eight strikeouts. In a 5-2 win over Guilford, Bay worked 7.0 frames and surrendered just five base runners on three hits and two walks. He gave up two runs and struck out three, giving him 11 punchouts in 13.0 total innings on the week. For the season, Bay is now 3-1 with a 4.02 earned run average in 31.1 innings with 18 strikeouts.
  • Cole Migliorini, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Outfielder
    March 20, 2017
    Migliorini, a junior from Stafford, Va., swung a powerful bat in the Yellow Jackets sweep at Guilford, registering four extra-base hits amongst his five total knocks. In game one, Migliorini went 3-for-5 with a double and a homer in a 15-4 victory. He scored four runs with two more driven in. In an 11-4 win in game two, Migliorini went 2-for-4 with both hits leaving the yard for three homers on the weekend. He drove in four runs and scored two more with a walk. He finished with a .556/.600/1.667 slash line. For the season, Migliorini is hitting .317 with an ODAC second-best five homeruns. He has racked up 17 RBI.
  • Chase Mayberry, Hampden-Sydney, Fr., Starting Pitcher
    March 20, 2017
    Mayberry, a freshman from Appomattox., Va., is the second straight first-year pitcher to claim the ODAC's weekly honor. Mayberry tossed a complete-game with nine strong frames in defeating conference foe Emory & Henry, 10-0, over the weekend. Have gave up just five hits and walked one on the way to shutout victory, adding in six strikeouts. For the season, Mayberry is 3-0 with a 1.34 earned run average in five appearances. He's fanned 30 in 33.2 innings of work.
  • Stuart Brown, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Third Base
    March 13, 2017
    Brown, a senior from Midlothian, Va., posted a trio of multi-hit games in three wins for Randolph-Macon. Brown started with a 3-for-5 day with three runs scored, a double, a run driven in and a walk in a 13-1 win at St. Mary's (Md.). He then went 5-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep of Emory & Henry. He had two hits with three RBI, a runs scored, and a walk in a 13-2 win in game one. He was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two RBI, and a run scored in a 9-2 win in game two. Brown finished the week with a .615/.667/.923 slash line. For the season, Brown is hitting .373 with a .450 on-base percentage and a .549 slugging percentage.
  • Patrick Monteverde, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr., Starting Pitcher
    March 13, 2017
    Monteverde, a freshman from Pittsburgh, Pa., has made a splash at Virginia Wesleyan in his first season on the hill for the Marlins. He picked up his first collegiate complete game in a 13-0 win over Eastern Mennonite, pairing it with his first shutout. Monteverde gave up just three hits and retired stretches of five, eight, and six straight batters scattered around those hits and two walks. He fanned eight batters, including the final two hitters of the game. For the season, Monteverde is 1-1 with a 1.19 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in 22.2 innings.
  • Jake Loew, Shenandoah, Sr., First Base
    March 06, 2017
    Loew, a senior from Binghampton, N.Y., continues to provide punch in the middle of Shenandoah's lineup as he helped the Hornets to a 3-0 week. Loew generated 14 runs with three extra-base hits, including two homers and a double. He was 2-for-2 with a double, homer, two walks, three runs driven and two runs scored in a 9-4 triumph over Elizabethtown. He singled and walked with three more runs scored and another driven in during a 14-0 win over City College of New York. He followed that with his second homer of the week, this time a bases-clearing grand slam while scoring another run in a 13-5 win over CCNY. He finished the week with a .500/.714/1.375 slash line. For the season, Loew leads the ODAC in runs (16), homers (5), RBI (18), on-base percentage (.622), and slugging percentage (1.032). He is seventh in batting average (.452) and walks (8) and has been hit by a league-high six pitches.
  • John Ruhlman, Roanoke, Sr., Starting Pitcher

    Ruhlman, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., appeared twice for Roanoke and picked up a win and a save to help the Maroons to a 3-0 week overall. Ruhlman took the hill in relief against Ferrum and tossed 3.0 scoreless frames to pick up the save in a 9-5 win. He gave up one hit and fanned a pair. He came back four days later and went the distance in an 8-1 win over Susquehanna. He surrendered one run on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts in a full nine innings of work. For the season, Ruhlman is 1-0 with one save. He owns a 3.67 ERA, having struck out 16 batters in 24.1 innings.
  • Chadwick Feeley, Washington and Lee, So., Shortstop

    Feeley, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., put together four multi-hit outings with a double in each game in the Generals 3-1 week. Feeley started things off with a bang, tying the Washington and Lee single-game record with five hits (in six at bats) in a 10-5 win over Huntingdon College. He drove in one and scored a run. He collected two hits and plated a pair of runs in a 9-5 loss to Franklin & Marshall in game one of a three-game set. He against smacked a pair of hits with two runs scored and a RBI in an 11-6 win in game two. He finished his week going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk in a 7-3 victory over the Diplomats. For the season, Feeley is hitting .350 (14-for-40) with four doubles, five RBI, and eight runs scored.
  • Gerard DePhillips, Shenandoah, Fr., Starting Pitcher

    DePhillips, a freshman from Florham Park, N.J., helped Shenandoah continue its early season success with a strong start in an 8-1 victory over Case Western Reserve University. Phillips worked 8.0 frames for the win, giving up one unearned run while scattering five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. On the season, Phillips is now 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a .212 batting average against. He has fanned 10 and has yet to walk a batter in 14.0 innings of work.
  • Jake Loew, Shenandoah, Sr., First Base
    February 20, 2017
    Loew, a senior from Binghampton, N.Y., proved a crucial cog in the Shenandoah's lineup as the Hornets defeated Misericordia and nationally fifith-ranked La Roche twice each to open the season 4-0. Loew went 6-for-13 with a pair of doubles, a homer, five runs driven in and four runs scored overall. He was 2-for-3 with a run in a 5-4 win over Misericordia, and came back in game two with two RBI towards a 6-3 victory. He again plated two runs while smacking a double in a 5-3 game-one win over La Roche. He followed with a double and a homer while scoring three runs and walking once in an 11-10 shootout win in game two.
  • Eric Yost, Guilford, Sr., Starting Pitcher
    February 20, 2017
    Yost, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., struck out a career-high nine batters in the Quakers 4-0 shutout of Averett. He scattered six hits and walked one in 7.2 scoreless innings, marking the second-longest outing of his Guilford career. He had retired 12 straight in the game at one point, with at least one strikeout of seven of the eight innings in which he took the hill. For the season, Yost is 1-1 with a 5.93 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 13.2 innings of work.
  • Jeffrey Butler, Randolph-Macon, So., Infielder

    Butler, a sophomore from Chesapeake, Va., helped Randolph-Macon open the season with a sweep of St. Mary's (Md.). Butler reached base safely in eight of his first nine plate appearances, registering five hits in six official at bats. He was 3-for-3 with a run, two RBI, two walks, and two stolen bases in an 8-1 win in game one. He followed with a 2-for-3 showing in a 9-3 win game two. He scored once and drove in another run, walked for a third time in the series, and swiped his third bag. Butler is hitting .833 with a .889 on-base percentage.
  • David Goulding, Lynchburg, Jr., Starting Pitcher
    February 13, 2017
    Goulding a junior from Lynchburg, Va., put together 15 solid innnings over two starts, going 1-0 with a complete-game victory in an 8-2 win at Averett. In that game, Goulding gave up two runs (one earned) while scattering six hits and walking one in 9.0 frames. He fanned four in his first win of the year. Early in the week, Goulding went 6.0 innings towards a no-decision in a 6-5 loss at Methodist. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. For the season, Goulding is 1-0 with a 2.40 earned run average and 10 strikeouts in 15.0 innings on the hill.
