The Lead: Roanoke College played their second consecutive road game when they traveled to Ferrum on Wednesday night. It was the first time that the Maroons faced the Panthers since the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament semifinals. A big second quarter for the Maroons and the lead grew to 21 at the break. After an even third period, Ferrum pulled to within four points with one-minute left to play. Roanoke made their free throws to pull away in the closing seconds for a 73-65 ODAC win.

How it Happened:

  • The Panthers scored first and took an early lead, 7-4. A jumper by Rose Sande followed by a Kristina Harrel stick-back and RC took their first lead of the night.
  • A pair of JaBryah Haverkamp free throws capped a 10-0 Roanoke run on their way to taking the first quarter, 18-13.
  • The first five minutes of the second frame would see the Maroons use a 14-3 spurt to take a 34-18 advantage with just under 5:00 on the clock. Renee Alquiza scored in transition to start another RC run and Ayanna Scarborough made a layup in the final 30 seconds as Roanoke took a 44-23 edge into the half.
  • A Scarborough free throw would see the Roanoke lead grow to 26, their largest lead of the night. The Panthers would cut the deficit to 19 with 10 minutes left to play.
  • Roanoke would see Ferrum continue to cut into their lead and with just over a minute left to play, RC held a 67-63 advantage. Sande made a pair of free throws followed by two more from Harrel and Alquiza made it a perfect 6-6 from the stripe in the final minute to secure the 73-65, ODAC, victory.
  • Sande paced the Maroons with 16 points and seven rebounds. Scarborough came off the bench to add 15 points and six rebounds with Harrel scoring 10 to go with five boards. Whitney Hopson handed out five assists while Sande secured three of RC's eight steals.
