The Lead: Prior to the tip with Shenandoah, Roanoke College took a moment to honor her four seniors. Megan Wheeler, Kristina Harrel, Kayla Kinsler, and Jayla Faison were recognized for their dedication and hard work for the program. After the opening tip, Shenandoah would enjoy the advantage for of the first half. A 7-3 run to close the half would allow the Maroons to take a one-point lead into the break. Roanoke would never trail again as they built as much as a 15 point advantage during the second half and picked up their fourth Old Dominion Athletic conference (ODAC) win of the season.

How it Happened:

  • The Hornets would score the first four and eight of the first 12 points of the afternoon.
  • A Renee Alquiza three-pointer would get the Maroons to within one, 12-11, but a Shenandoah score would give the visitors a 14-11 lead after one period of play.
  • Alquiza would once again cut the deficit to one, before the Hornets responded and with 8:10 to play in the first half, it would be Shenandoah with their largest lead of the game, 18-13.
  • Rose Sande scored four straight to stop the Hornets run and get Roanoke right back in the matchup.
  • With 3:20 to play in the second quarter JaBryah Haverkamp would put Roanoke in front for the first time all afternoon.
  • Alquiza would answer a Shenandoah three-pointer with one of her own and RC took a one-point cushion into the break.
  • Kinsler nailed one from deep to spark Roanoke to a 10-0 run to start the second half.
  • The Hornets would cut the lead to seven before Whitney Hopson pushed the lead back to double digits heading into the final frame.
  • Shenandoah would get to within six but a 9-0 surge by the Maroons gave the home team firm control as Roanoke would close out the Hornets for the eleven point, conference win.
  • Sande led all scorers with 16 points with Alquiza and Harrel each adding 15. Ayanna Scarborough grabbed a team high seven rebounds while handing out four assists. Alquiza recorded four blocked shots, giving the junior 14 for the season, 2nd in the ODAC.

Up next: Roanoke will travel to Ferrum on Monday night to play a rescheduled game with the Panthers.
