  • The Short Story: A strong second quarter led the Roanoke women's basketball team to an 80-54 ODAC win over Hollins on Wednesday evening at the Cregger Center. Morgan Micallef led four Maroons in double-figures with 14 points.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hollins led four different times in the first quarter (4-2, 6-5, 10-8, and 13-2). However, each time the Maroons responded including a three-pointer from Sayre Brandstatter with 1:28 left to the Roanoke the lead at 15-13.
  • The Maroons extended a 10-0 run into the second quarter to lead 22-13 with 7:47 left in the half, thanks to a layup by Madison Nereu. Hollins would pull back within six at 24-18 with 6:51 before the break. An 18-1 run which was only stopped with 54 seconds left in the first half pushed the Roanoke lead to 42-19. A 6-0 by HU to end the half pulled them within 17.
  • The third quarter was also all Maroons with the host team pushing their lead up to 29 with 1:09 left in the period, 67-38.
  • The fourth quarter saw Hollins outscore Roanoke 16-13, but the Maroons' lead was large enough to sustain them through for the 80-54 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke made 44.9% of its shots from the floor while holding Hollins to just 33.3%.  
  • The Maroons led Hollins in rebounds (57-32), assists (19-9), 2nd chance points (14-1), points in the paint (46-18), fast break points (24-6), and bench points (33-7)
  • The Royals led the Maroons in three-pointers made (7-3) and free throws made (9-7). The teams were tied in points off turnovers with 17 a piece
  • In total there were seven different lead changes and three ties throughout the game.
  • Micallef's 14 points led four Maroons in double-figures: Rose Sande (13), Nereu (11), and JaBryah Haverkamp (10).
