Maroons Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Swarthmore

The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse dropped a home contest to the visit Garnet of Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • Swarthmore took the lead to start the game with five goals in the first five minutes of the game. Aidan Sullivan got the Maroons on the scoreboard with a goal at 9:57 off an assist from Jay Frye. The two teams would trade goals for the rest of the first quarter with Brooks Klyver, Luke Kammerman, and Julian Kammerman all scoring for Roanoke. 
  • The second quarter saw Roanoke get goals from Wyatt Whitlow, Sean Kennedy, and Matthew Albertson, but the Garnet would double their lead to take a 13-7 advantage into halftime.
  • After the Garnet scored the first three goals of the second half, The Maroons answered with four straight from Ethan Caldwell, Clayton Bewick, Luca Docking, and L. Kammerman to cut the lead down to five. A last-minute goal in the third quarter put the Swarthmore lead back up to six.
  • The comeback fell just short despite the Maroons getting fourth-quarter goals from Quinn Evans and Whitlow as the Garnet came away with the 18-13 win over Roanoke. 
  • Alex Feuer dropped his first game in goal this season playing all 60 minutes in the cage. He made 18 saves. 

Up Next: Roanoke stays at home for a midweek contest against Mary Washington on Wednesday, March 15. Face off with the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
