The Basics
Score: No. 11 Lynchburg 14, Roanoke 11
Records: Hornets 9-4, 5-0 ODAC; Maroons 8-5, 4-1 ODAC
Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team's comeback bid fell just short against No. 11 Lynchburg on the road, 14-11.

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • The Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 in the first quarter before a goal by Ethan Caldwell off a pass from DJ Nolan got the Maroons on the board at 4:29. A Lynchburg goal with 3:45 left in the period put the home team up 5-1 after one quarter of play.
  • The second quarter saw both teams score two goals, trading off. The Maroons got goals added to the scoreboard from Noah Goad and Julian Kammerman. The Hornets led by four, 7-3 at the break.
  • The third quarter saw Roanoke score five goals in the period from Wyatt Whitlow (3x), Quinn Evans, and Caldwell to tie the score up at 8-8 with 3:43 left in the period. A late Lynchburg goal put them back on top as the teams headed to the fourth quarter.
  • Two Hornets goals to start the period were followed by two Maroon goals to keep Roanoke within one. But a trio of Lynchburg goals in a row allowed the Hornets to pull away to take a four-goal lead with 4:11 left. A fifth goal by Whitlow with 48 seconds left was not enough for the comeback as Lynchburg came away with the 14-11 win.
  • Whitlow's five goals were the team-high while Weston Hammond's four ground balls were a team-high.
