The Lead: Roanoke began a four-game home stand on Saturday with a visit from the University of the South. The Maroons raced out to a 15-3 halftime lead over the Tigers on their way to winning their second consecutive home game by a final of 25-7.

How it Happened:

  • Wyatt Whitlow scored the first two goals of the afternoon. Ethan Caldwell made it 3-0 before Sewanee got on the board. Luke Kammerman made it 4-1 before Caldwell found Charlie Goodrich to increase the lead. When Luca Docking scored up a man in the closing minutes, Roanoke took a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • The second frame belonged to the home team. Kammerman went back-to-back, the second coming off another George Gilbert feed, to push the advantage to 9-3. Gilbert got into the scoring column prior to Whitlock finishing off the hat trick, both on Docking helpers. Caldwell and Gilbert added scores and in the final two-minutes, Bryson Miller and Whitlow made it 15-3 at the break.
  • The Tigers would open the second half with a pair of goals, however, Roanoke would score eight straight goals over a 10-minute stretch. The final eight plus minutes of play would see a Quinn Evans score before Matt Hemmert wrapped up the RC scoring as the Maroons evened their early season record at 2-2 with a 25-7 w home win.
  • Whitlow and Kammerman each netted four scores with Caldwell scoring three times. Kammerman added four assists, Gilbert, Caldwell, and Docking each handed out two assists apiece. John Dias picked up five ground balls while face off man Brooks Klyver grabbed four. Matt Jahries and Aidan Sullivan combined for six of the Maroons 19 caused turnovers.
  • In goal, Taylor Lewis got with win, recording 15 saves before being relieved by Cole Hiller (three saves) and Greg Oakes.
