The Lead: The Roanoke College women's basketball team took a perfect, 5-0, record for the month into a rescheduled road game at Ferrum on Monday night. The game, originally scheduled for February 9, was the first away from the Cregger Center in more than two weeks. Roanoke used a 16-2 run during the first quarter to seize control as the Maroons cruised to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

How it Happened:

  • Ferrum struck first with a Jacy Marvin three-pointer followed by an Aisha Martin jump shot that gave the home team a 5-0 advantage.
  • Sayre Brandstatter answered with a three of her own and after a Kristina Harrel three-point play, RC had taken their first lead of the night, a lead that they would begin to grow.
  • Renee Alquiza scored a layup and the Maroons run was 8-0. After a Ferrum basket, The Maroons would score the next eight to take firm control of the matchup.
  • Over the remaining five minutes of the first quarter, Roanoke would continue to stretch out their lead, and when Rose Sande connected from long range, the Maroons had taken a 28-11 lead after just 10 minutes of play.
  • Roanoke shot a blistering 57-9% from the field, connecting on 11 of their 19, first half shots.
  • RC didn't slow down in period number two and at the 6:17 mark, a Sande layup had extended the advantage to 20.
  • The shooting in the second quarter was even better than the first, 58.8%, as the Maroons enjoyed a 57-32 lead at the break.
  • A Whitney Hopson layup capped a 9-0 start to the second half as Roanoke would cruise to a 31 point edge heading into the fourth quarter.
  • With 2:26 left to play, Kayla Kinsler nailed a three-pointer as the Maroons cracked the century mark on their way to their second largest margin of victory this season.
  • Harrel paced Roanoke with 18 points while Ayanna Scarborough came off the bench to add 16 points and a team high seven rebounds. Brandstatter got the start and answered the call with 14 points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Alquiza made it a quartet in double figures with 11.
  • Marvin led the Panthers with 12 points and five rebounds.

Up next: Roanoke will take the court one last time this regular season when they play host to Lynchburg on Wednesday night.
