The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team hosted Virginia Wesleyan in their first home ODAC game of the season. The Maroons tallied 29 goals in a 29-8 win over the Marlins on Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons got things started off right with four, unanswered goals in the first six minutes. Ethan Caldwell, Wyatt Whitlow, Julian Kammerman, and Luca Docking each found the back of the cage for Roanoke during this stretch. The two teams would trade goals starting at 6:03, including a man-down goal for Docking, and goals for Luke Kammerman, and Matthew Albertson (00:01) as Roanoke led 7-3.
  • The second quarter was nearly all Maroons as Roanoke scored the first six goals of the quarter in just over five minutes of play to extend their lead to 13-3. After the Marlins were able to score a goal, the Maroons scored the final four goals (Weston Hammond, Bryson Miller, L. Kammerman, and Jay Frye) of the first half to lead by 13 at the break, 17-4.
  • Roanoke continued to increase their lead in the third quarter, scoring eight more goals while allowing the Marlins just three. 
  • The final period saw Roanoke push their lead to 21 at 29-8 on a final goal by Dominic Cuomo with four seconds left in the contest.
  • Noah Goad led the Maroons offensively with four goals with J. Kammerman finishing with two goals and four assists.
  • Brooks Klyver went 11-19 on faceoffs, grabbing seven ground balls in the process. 
  • Alex Feuer improved to 4-1 on the season after playing the entire first half, making six saves.

  • Roanoke is on the road Wednesday, March 29 when they pay a visit to Guilford. The ODAC contest with the Quakers is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
