Maroons Finish Regular Season With Loss to Hampden-Sydney

The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season at home on Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Tigers of Hampden-Sydney 20-11. 

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • It did not take long for the Maroons to get on the scoreboard, as they took the opening faceoff and Wyatt Whitlow scored just 17 seconds into the game to put the Maroons ahead 1-0 at 14:43. However, the Tigers responded just 22 seconds later with their own opening goal to tie the score at 14:21. It was the first of a 6-0 run for H-SC before a Stephen Conte goal, from Julian Kammerman, at 4:27, brought Roanoke back within four. A trio of goals for the Tigers closed out the first quarter with the visitors leading 9-2.
  • H-SC opened the second quarter with a goal before a pair of goals from Luke Kammerman and Whitlow began a 4-1 run for the Maroons. After a Tiger goal, Matthew Albertson and Ethan Caldwell each scored to pull Roanoke within five at 9:57 left in the first half. Caldwell's goal was a man-up goal. The Tigers answered with five-straight goals to take a 16-6 lead into the break. 
  • A goal by the visitors to open the second half was answered by three-straight by the Maroons with J. Kammerman, twice, and Whitlow to get back within eight heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Tigers would outscore Roanoke 3-2 in the final period to leave Kerr Stadium with a 20-11 win.
