Shenandoah Claims Second ODAC Women's Basketball Title

SALEM, Va. --- Shenandoah University women's basketball is 2-for-2 is conference championship games as the Hornets lifted their second ODAC trophy in as many tries with a 56-43 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Sunday in the Salem Civic Center.

Shenandoah (22-5 overall, 13-5 ODAC), seeded fourth in the tournament, earns the ODAC's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Tournament field of 64 teams. Randolph-Macon (20-7, 16-2), the ODAC's second seed, is among the league's schools that will wait to see where they rank inside of the NCAA's Region VI for a possible at-large selection. The bracket will be announced on Monday on www.ncaa.com.

The 2021-22 season marks the 10th for Shenandoah as a full-time member of the ODAC. The Hornets have proven victorious in both of their championship game appearances, pairing this title with the hardware earned following a 63-53 win over Washington and Lee University in 2019.

Tournament MOP Sierra St. Cyr led all players with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. The ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-ODAC Third Team pick finished the tournament with statistical totals of 40 points, 23 boards, 10 assists, seven steals, and two blocked shots.

Ragan Johnson and Olivia Weinel joined St. Cyr on the All-Tournament Team for Shendoah. In the title game, Johnson posted four points with 11 rebounds, a steal, and a blocked shot. Weinel, an Academic All-District honoree and All-ODAC First Team selection, added six points with nine rebounds. She had 22 points in each of the first two games in Salem to finish the weekend with 50 markers. SU point guard Madisen Kimble went for 11 points with two boards and a steal.

Catherine Kagey led Randolph-Macon with 12 points to go with 10 rebounds and four assists. All-Tournament Team members Aimee DeBell and Becca Anthony chipped in with 11 points each. DeBell added six boards and an assist, while Anthony went for eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
