ODAC Announces Men's Basketball Tournament Field

FOREST, Va. --- An early look at tiebreakers entering the final games of the regular season on Saturday left just a few positions up for grabs in the ODAC's 10-team field for the upcoming ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament. A trio of nationally ranked teams tops the field led by defending Division III champion and second-ranked Randolph-Macon College as the #1 seed.

The Yellow Jackets (16-0) have not lost an ODAC regular season conference game since falling at Guilford College on February 22, 2020, resulting in a string of 35 straight wins in one of the toughest conferences in Division III. Nationally 16th-ranked Hampden-Sydney College (14-2) enters as the second seed, while 14th-ranked Guilford (13-3) will play as the third seed.

Results from Saturday provided little movement in the standings following Wednesday's midweek games, although some of the results posted could be very meaningful when looking forward to NCAA Tournament prospects following what is sure to be a highly competitive conference tournament.

Randolph-Macon closed its season with a 61-58 victory at Guilford, while Washington and Lee University (11-5) solidified its place as the fifth seed with a big regional victory, 91-86, over Hampden-Sydney. Roanoke College (12-4) locked up the fourth seed with an 80-74 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan University.

For the Marlins (8-8), that result left them in a tie with Bridgewater College for the sixth seed. The Eagles (8-8) dropped a two-point affair at Averett University on Saturday. Despite the loss, BC will play as the sixth seed over VWU thanks to the Eagles 54-52 win over the Marlins in their only meeting of the regular season. Bridgewater caps the list of top-six seeds automatically qualifying for quarterfinal play in Salem at the Salem Civic Center on Friday.

The Marlins will welcome Shenandoah University to Virginia Beach on Tuesday in one of two first round contests. The Hornets (4-12) earned an 88-70 win over Randolph College to lock up the 10th seed in the field. Eighth-seeded Averett (6-10) will host the remaining first round showdown against ninth seeded Ferrum College (5-11). The Panthers were idle on Saturday after completing their regular season league slate during the midweek.
