Bridgewater, Lynchburg top two seeds
FOREST, Va. --- All 10 ODAC baseball teams
played their final conference regular season games on Saturday,
providing plenty of action and maneuvering for the 2011 ODAC
Baseball Tournament. Bridgewater College enters the
postseason as the league’s top seed for the second straight
season. The Eagles topped the conference with a 15-3 league
mark to go with a 23-16 overall record.
Lynchburg College (14-4, 22-13) holds down the second seed, while
Washington and Lee University (15-13, 12-6) will play out of the
third spot. Randolph-Macon College (17-17, 11-7) secured the
fourth seed outright, but the final two spots in the ladder came
down to league tie-breakers.
Guilford College (16-22, 9-9), Hampden-Sydney College (19-19, 9-9)
and Virginia Wesleyan College (16-21, 9-9) all finished with
identical conference records. Head-to-head tie-breakers
decided the final two tournament positions. The Quakers came
out on top and will own the fifth seed, having swept both Virginia
Wesleyan and Hampden-Sydney during the regular season.
Guilford is making its first ODAC postseason appearance since
2006. The Tigers cap the six-team field, earning their entry
thanks in part to their regular season sweep of the Marlins.
Lynchburg's historic City Stadium, home of the minor league
Lynchburg Hillcats, will again play host to each of the contests in
the tournament's double-elimination format. Play begins on
Wednesday, April 20 and runs through championship Saturday on April
23. The first of Wednesday's three games begins at 11:00
a.m.
Listed below is the schedule for the 2011 ODAC Baseball
Tournament. Due to the double elimination format, play on
Friday and Saturday could be altered depending on the number of
teams remaining in the field (scenarios outlined on tournament
website).
