Yellow Jackets to Meet Lynchburg, Generals Face Bridgewater
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Randolph-Macon
College's Brian Jordan waited until his final at bat to collect his
first hit in the third game of the 2011 ODAC Baseball Tournament,
but it was definitely a big one. The All-ODAC Second Team
outfielder delivered a two-out single to centerfield in the top of
the 14th inning to plate Dustin Baellow from second base and secure
the game's only run in a 1-0 14-inning victory for the
fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets over #3 Washington and Lee
University.
R-MC moves on to face Lynchburg College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Generals will take on Bridgewater College at 11:00 a.m.
at City Stadium in Lynchburg.
Baellow's run snapped the longest combined scoreless inning streak
in ODAC tournament history. The game ended after 14 complete
innings, accounting for the longest overall game in the conference
tournament record books. The previous record stood at 12
innings, accomplished four times including earlier on Wednesday in
Lynchburg's walk-off win over Guilford College.
The Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee pitching staffs were
outstanding in combining to allow just 21 hits in 98 at bats
(.214) while fanning 25 batters. The two starters combined to
throw 18 scoreless innings. R-MC's Kyle Hicks, the 2010 ODAC
Pitcher of the Year, gave up five hits and walked three while
striking out nine in eight innings on the bump. W&L's
Gregg Laswell, the 2011 ODAC Pitcher of the Year, tossed 10
unblemished frames, surrendering seven hits and only one free pass
while striking out 12 Jackets. He entered the game leading
the ODAC in strikeouts with 58.
Randolph-Macon's Dale Langford earned the win with six scoreless
innings of five-hit ball. He walked two and fanned a pair in
improving to 2-1. Eric Wisotsky took the loss for W&L.
He and Ian Shaw each stepped to the hill for a pair of
innings with both giving up two hits. Shaw walked a pair and
struck out one while Wisotsky whiffed another. Wisotsky's
record stands at 0-2 on the season.
Jordan Walton, Greg Mitro and Cory Jackson each collected two of
Randolph-Macon's 11 hits. Both of Walton's knocks went for
two bases while Mitro smacked one double.
Mike Decembrino went 3-for-5 for W&L with a strolen base.

dish.
