Yellow Jackets to Play Saturday
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- R-MC reliever Dale
Langford got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom
of the ninth to secure the Yellow Jackets' 6-5 win over Bridgewater
College and a bid to the ODAC championship game. Randolph-Macon
Baseball will now play Saturday at 1:00pm at City Stadium in
Lynchburg, VA and their opponent is still to be determined.
Greg Mitro paced R-MC at the dish going 3-for-5 with two
RBI. Jay Lichter also totaled three hits and drove in a
run. Jordan Walton went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI
and a stolen base. Jeb Weymouth and Peter
Culver chipped in with two hits each.
Randolph-Macon starter Michael Helbig picks up the win
after allowing four earned runs on ten hits and striking out four
in eight innings on the mound. Langford gave up just two hits and
no runs with one strikeout for his third save of the season.
Alex Nuttycombe led the Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-4 game.
Bryan Sanderson finished with two hits and an RBI while Andrew
Hacker also chipped in with two hits.
Robert Gallet is stuck with the loss after allowing two earned runs
on seven hits in two innings on the bump. Kyle Henshaw gave up two
earned in five and a third innings of relief with three
strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on top early with run scoring singles
from Mitro and Lichter in the first inning.
Randolph-Macon extended their lead to 4-0 in the third after Walton
tripled home Weymouth and scored on a Mitro single. Walton
contributed to the offense again in the fifth with an RBI single to
give the Jackets a 5-0 edge.
Bridgewater rallied for three runs in the sixth inning on three
hits and three Randolph-Macon errors.
The Yellow Jackets tacked on a key insurance run in the top of the
eighth when Mitro singled up the middle to bring home Culver.
BC led off the bottom of the ninth with a pair of singles from
Brett Howell and Jake Wade. Nuttycombe then singled down the left
line to plate Howell and pull the Eagles within two at 6-4.
Sanderson followed with an RBI single to cut the advantage to one.
A bunt single from Devon Snow then loaded the bases with no outs
and the heart of the Bridgewater lineup due to the plate.
Langford then induced a comebacker groundout before striking out
Jonathan Mason for the second out of the inning. Hacker then
stepped to the dish and hit a fly ball to left which was tracked
down by the Jackets' centerfielder Weymouth for the third and final
out.
Randolph-Macon advances to the ODAC Tournament Championship game
Saturday, April 23 at 1:00, opponent is still to be announced.
