LYNCHBURG, Va. --- For the first time since 2010 and the second time since 2005, the top-seeded Lynchburg College baseball team is heading to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Championship.

Lynchburg defeated fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College 2-1 in a close contest on Saturday afternoon after a four-hour rain delay and set a program record for most wins in a season with 33. LC plays in the ODAC Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Sophomore James Womack kept the Yellow Jackets at bay, going seven innings while only giving up two hits. Throughout three games in the ODAC Tournament this season, Lynchburg has only relinquished three runs to the opposition, with the starters pitching 25 out of 27 innings.

In the second inning, junior Dan Savage singled to lead off the frame followed by a double from junior Dustin Arrowood. With runners on first and second with no outs, sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick hit a single up the middle to score Savage for the 1-0 lead.

With runners on second and third in the top of the fourth inning, Womack worked out of a jam, inducing a groundout from RMC's Zach Broaddus to end the frame.

Randolph-Macon's Jake Fletcher drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to tie the game at one however. Womack then got a quick out on a comebacker to the mound and got 2012 ODAC Player of the Year Jordan Walton to groundout with the bases loaded to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Dustin Arrowood singled on a 2-1 delivery from starting pitcher Jake Bram. Arrowood finished the game 3-3 at the plate. Fitzpatrick advanced him to second on a sacrifice bunt, but with no Yellow Jacket covering third base, Arrowood took the extra base.

Junior Ashton Paige then grounded out to shortstop, scoring Arrowood for the 2-1 lead. Womack gave way to senior Jared Millner in the eighth inning after relinquishing just one run while striking out five.

Millner worked a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, closing out the Yellow Jackets for his second save of the season.Bram went all eight innings for Randolph-Macon (20-17-1), striking out three. Brian Jordan and Tim Benjamin collect the lone hits for the Yellow Jackets who play the winner of Bridgewater College and Hampden-Sydney College in game nine of the tournament on Saturday night.

Lynchburg (33-8) is seeking its eighth ODAC title and first since 1990. The Hornets will play the winner of game nine for the ODAC Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lynchburg City Stadium. LC can win the title outright in the first game on Sunday, though with double-elimination, a second game could be played if necessary to determine the ODAC Champion.
