R-MC Forces Deciding Game in ODAC Baseball Tournament

SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon defeated Bridgewater 8-7 to force a winner take all game 11 in the 2013 ODAC Baseball Tournament. The game is slated to start tonight at approximately 9:00 P.M. at Lewis-Gale Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium in Salem, VA.

The Eagles got on the board early with three runs in the first inning on three RBI singles.

R-MC responded in the top of the third when Mark Heideman led off the inning with the first of five consecutive hits for the Yellow Jackets. Jeb Weymouth drove in a pair of runs with a single to right and Michael Trentham followed with an RBI single of his own. Tim Benjamin capped the four run outburst with a run scoring single to center.

Randolph-Macon stretched their advantage to 7-3 with a three run fifth inning highlighted by a two run double off the bat of Michael Kroll.

Bridgewater rallied with two outs in the seventh inning, plating a pair of runs on an R-MC error and Christian Armstrong's RBI single.

Trentham delivered a double with two outs in the top of the eighth that scored Weymouth and put the Yellow Jackets ahead 8-5.

The Eagles got the bats going again in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a run on Jonathan Mason's single and an Andrew Hacker sacrifice fly that cut the advantage to one.

Will Jennings came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth for Randolph-Macon and after walking the first batter he faced, the freshman retired the next two. Jennings then struck out the final BC hitter to secure the win.

Matt Fischgrund earns his second win of the tournament after allowing three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Brandon Beiler gave up no earned runs (two unearned) in two thirds innings of relief while JT Williamson struck out the only batter he faced. Glenn McLaughlin allowed two earned runs in a third of an inning;Sid Harvey recorded the final two outs of the eighth.

Jake Fletcher went 3-for-5 at the plate to pace the Yellow Jackets. Weymouth, Trentham and Benjamin all had a pair of hits and two RBI each. Mitchell Keeleradded two singles while Kroll had a double and drove in two runs.


Derrick Walling and Hacker led the Eagles with three hits each. Hacker also drove in two runs while Walling had one RBI.

Corey Armentrout went three innings in the start and takes the loss. Armentrout allowed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Justin Petock gave up one run in three innings of relief.
