SU Rallies Past BC in Game Seven of ODAC Baseball Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. –-- No. 14/18 Shenandoah University is now one win from its first-ever ODAC Baseball Championship thanks to a 4-3 victory over Bridgewater Saturday morning.

Shenandoah (31-7) now awaits a pair of elimination games to determine its opponent for Sunday's championship.

The Randolph-Macon/Lynchburg winner will take on Bridgewater (28-12) for the right to face SU in the championship.

Whichever team Shenandoah faces will have to beat the Hornets twice to win the title and accompanying automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Kevin Anderson's club had to come-from-behind to defeat BC Saturday morning – the Eagles took a 3-0 lead thanks to three runs on four hits in the third off of Hornets starter Mike Scimanico (4-0).

Trailing 3-1 in the eighth after scoring a single run in its half of the third, Shenandoah took the lead with three runs on three hits and a crucial Eagles wild pitch.

That wild pitch, uncorked by reliever Ryan Leake (1-1), allowed Dan Powers to trot home with what proved to be the game-winning run.

Powers had reached on a single to left center that brought home pinch runner Connor Malloy with the Hornets second run of the game before Joe Bittner tied the game with an RBI single to left center to plate Michael Paul.

Anderson then turned to lefty closer Matt Riegler, and after loading the bases with two outs, Riegler got Nick Fulk to hit into a fielder's choice at second to end the contest.

Riegler's fourth save of the season, and second in two days, made a winner of Scimanico.

The sophomore lefty settled in after allowing those three runs to shut BC out through the eighth. He allowed the three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Nolan Overby and Powers each had two hits to pace the SU offense.

Billy Arens drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to center in the third.
