Lynchburg Wins Field Hockey Crown

LYNCHBURG, VA - Freshman midfielder Kelli Williams scored the game's only two goals to lead the top-seeded Lynchburg College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over #2 Randolph-Macon College in the finals of the 2010 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship tournament. It is the Hornets fifth-straight ODAC crown and the 14th in program history.

The Hornets out-shot Randolph-Macon 12-3 in the first half and had a 7-0 edge in penalty corners, but the game was scoreless heading into halftime.  Nicole Woodworth made five first-half saves to keep the game tied at 0-0.

Williams broke the tie at the 37:58 mark, deflecting in a Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) shot into the back of the cage. She struck a second time five minutes later, again deflecting in a shot, this time from Kristina Morris.

The Hornets held a 34-5 shot advantage for the game and 14-3 in penalty corners.  Woodworth had 17 saves for the game, while Hornet keeper Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) made five stops.

Randolph-Macon ends its season at 13-7, while the Hornets await the release of the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament, to be announced Monday morning. It is LC's sixth-straight berth into the national tournament.
