Randolph-Macon Headed to ODAC Title Game

ASHLAND, Va. --- Four different Yellow Jackets rattled the cage as Randolph-Macon Field Hockey (13-6 / 6-1 ODAC) got past Washington and Lee 5-3 in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday. R-MC has tied the program record for wins in a season with 13 and will face Lynchburg College on Saturday for the ODAC Championship.

 put the Jackets on the board just four minutes in when she scored on a pass from Mikalea Rumley

Randolph-Macon was awarded a penalty corner as time expired in the first half and senior Monica Jenkins capitalized with a goal from McCarthy.

McCarthy tallied her second score of the game two minutes into the second half to put R-MC up 3-0.

Freshman Lauren Seal passed to an open Rumley who rattled the cage in the 42nd minute.

Washington and Lee pulled their goalie and went on the offensive with Annie Stevenson scoring in the 46th minute.

Emmy Mathews cut the lead to 4-2 when she scored unassisted in the 62nd minute.

The Yellow Jackets went up 5-2 in the 52nd minute on a goal from Courtney Owens on a pass from McCarthy.

W&L's Christina Benedetti pulled the Generals back within two when she scored unassisted in the 62nd minute.

R-MC's defense locked down in the final eight minutes and held on for the 5-3 ODAC Semifinal victory.

Randolph-Macon keeper Nicole Woodworth made a game high 12 saves to secure their berth to the ODAC Championship game.

The Jackets capitalized on their offensive chances by scoring five times on just seven shots.

Washington and Lee outshot Randolph-Macon 28-7 while holding a 19-2 advantage in penalty corners.

R-MC will travel to Lynchburg College on Saturday after the Hornets defeated Eastern Mennonite 6-0 in the Semifinals. Game time is still yet to be determined; check athletics.rmc.edu for updates.
