ODAC Field Hockey Tournament Pairings Set

Generals to Host Field Hockey Final Four

Interactive Tournament Bracket

FOREST, Va. --- Three ties separated seven teams vying for positions in the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament.  Washington and Lee University enters the six-team field as the top seed for just the second time in program history.  Nine-time defending league champion Lynchburg College joins W&L with a bye thru the quarterfinals as the second seed.

The Generals' 1-0 win over Bridgewater College in the their regular season finale pitted W&L and LC in the first tied scenario.  The Generals' 3-1 win over the Hornets in early October afforded W&L the #1 position and hosting responsibilities for semifinals and finals on November 6-7.  Washington and Lee’s return to the top seed in the tournament harkens back to 2005 when the Generals entered the championship as the #1 squad and defeated Lynchburg, 2-1, to capture their first and only ODAC field hockey championship to date.

Seeds three and four were also determined by head-to-head tiebreakers between Bridgewater and Shenandoah University.  The Eagles' 2-1 victory over the Hornets' last week gave BC the higher nod, while SU will play as the fourth seed.

The final two positions in the tournament field were settled in a three-way tied between Roanoke College, Virginia Wesleyan College and Randolph-Macon College. The stalemate was finally broken after exhausting the first four steps in the conference tie-breaking procedures. The deciding protocol involved a goals allowed comparison in games played amongst the tied teams.  The Maroons came out ahead and will serve as the fifth seed, while the Marlins cap the postseason field as the sixth seed.

The quarterfinals are set to begin on Tuesday, November 3, on the campuses of Bridgewater and Shenandoah.  The Eagles will host Virginia Wesleyan, while SU welcomes Roanoke to Winchester.
