ODAC Field Hockey Tournament | Six Teams Ready for First Spring Tourney

Lynchburg Tops the Field for a Third Straight Season

FOREST, Va. --- The seasons may not quite be consecutive, but the University of Lynchburg stands atop the field for a third straight campaign as the conference's teams prepare to open the first ODAC Spring Field Hockey Tournament this week. Lynchburg's 7-0 league mark propelled them to the league's #1 rankings, while Washington and Lee University's 7-1 record earned the Generals the #2 seed.

Both LYN and W&L received byes thru the quarterfinal round of competition. Those two games will be hosted by third-seeded Roanoke College and #4 Shenandoah University. Bridgewater College, thanks to its win over Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon, will play as the fifth seed and travel to SU for its quarterfinal matchup.

The remaining seed in the six-team field required a deep dive into the conference's tiebreaking procedures. Eastern Mennonite University and Randolph-Macon College both tied at 3-4 in the league standings. With neither player each other this season and each owning the same win-loss results against league opponents, the tiebreaking process carried to the sixth step that focuses on goal differential against common conference opponents (with a cap of 3 per result). After applying the tiebreaker, Randolph-Macon was awarded the field's final position. The sixth-seeded Yellow Jackets will travel to Roanoke for quarterfinal play.

Quarterfinal play begins on Tuesday, April 13, at the #3 and #4 seeds. The semifinals will be hosted by the #1 and #2 seeds on Friday, April 16. The two remaining teams will play for the ODAC title on Sunday, April 18. The host of the conference championship game will be the highest remaining seed of the two competitors.
