Meet Scheduled for Friday at Liberty University’s Tolsma Indoor Track Center
Forest, Va. --- The Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) is scheduled to host its Indoor Track
Championships at Liberty University’s Tolsma Indoor Track
Center on Friday, February 23. Competition in the field events
begins at noon with the track events starting at 3pm. The
championship runs through Friday evening and concludes with the
awards ceremony scheduled for approximately 9:30pm.
Lynchburg College won the 2012 men’s championship with a
meet-best 141 points led by Rookie of the Year Jared Bloomquist.
Bloomquist captured the high jump competition with a final mark of
2.00 meters. The title marked the Hornets 15th
conference indoor track championship. He returns in 2013 entering
the championship with the league’s top mark in the high jump
at 6-6.75.
Other 2013 season highlights on the men’s side include -
Virginia Wesleyan junior Randy Lott headlines the top sprint events
leading the conference times in the 60 (6.98) and 200 (22.86)
meters. Bridgewater’s sophomore Luke Sohl leads all
conference marks in the mile at 4:20.48 and in the 5000 meters at
15:05.16. In the field events, Lynchburg dominates the top
marks in the shot put and weight led by junior Greg
Wilson’s performances in the shot put (49-11.25) and the
weight (52-3.75). Virginia Wesleyan’s sophomore Ethan Fowlkes
holds a narrow lead in the long jump (22-0.75) over Bridgewater
freshman Pete Monteleone (21-11.75).
Roanoke College won its seventh women’s ODAC title edging
Washington and Lee by 18.5 points. The Maroons were led by Athlete
of the Meet Carmen Graves who won both the 400-meter dash (58.78)
and the 800-meter run, setting a new championship meet record in
the latter event with a time of 2:20.18. She and teammates
Hope Flomo, Toni Duvall and Sarah Witt won the 4x400-meter relay
(4:02.53). Graves also ran a leg of RC's fourth place
distance medley team (14:04.48), placed second in the triple jump
(11.05 meters = 36' 3.00") and marked third in the long jump (5.21
meters = 17' 1.25"). Graves returns to this year’s
championship leading the conference in the 800 meters with the top
entering mark of 2:11.49. She also is the top qualifier in the mile
with a recorded league best of 4:58.17 and the 3,000 meters at
10:15.98.
Additional 2013 headliners on the women’s side include
– Bridgewater freshman Kristin Trice who holds the top
conference mark in the triple (35-4.25) and high (5-1) jumps as of
February 18. She ranks fifth in the long jump registering 16-0.25.
The women’s 60 meters is led by Lynchburg sophomore Aleshia
Washington’s 8.06 mark. Roanoke’s Alexis Janney is a
front runner in the 60 and 200 meters registering 8.13
(3rd) and 26.75 (1st) respectively, while
teammate Alease Kinney is tops in the 400 meters (59.74) and second
in the 200 meters at 27.01. Eastern Mennonite freshman Hannah
Chappell-Dick is a contender in the mile and 3000 meters holding
the third best time in the 3000 and second ranked time in the mile.
Shenandoah and Lynchburg appear to have a firm hold on the shot and
weight throw making up the top three marks in both
categories. Shenandoah's Amanda Theall ranks first in the
weight with a mark of 50-8 and second in the shot (37-10.5), while
Lynchburg’s Kori Penick is tops in the shot at 42-0.
