Eagles Sweep ODAC Indoor Titles for Second Straight Season

W&L's Lee, EMU's Heizer Earn Top Athlete Honors

LANDOVER, Md. --- Bridgewater College took home both ODAC indoor track & field team trophies for the second straight year on Sunday evening, completing a sweep that featured five women's and four men's gold medals.  The Eagles' men collected 166 points with Washington and Lee University picking up 115.5 markers as runner-up.  The women's ranks were much tighter, with BC outpacing W&L by just two points, 135 to 133.

The Generals' Dana Lee and Eastern Mennonite University's Jeremy Heizer were selected as the ODAC Athletes of the Meet following competition in 32 combined events at Prince George's SportsPlex in Landover, Md.  Bridgewater mentor Shane Stevens received the ODAC Women's Coach of the Year honor, while Randolph College's Bill Cooper received the men's top coaching award. W&L's Samantha Yates and BC's Davonta Womack earned ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades, while EMU's Hannah Chappell-Dick and Tyler Denlinger repeated as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Full Meet Results

While just two records were broken last season, 12 combined ODAC overall and meet standards feature new names after this year's championships. BC's Amber Celen set conference overall and meet records in the 60-meter (0:07.72) and 200-meter (0:25.09) dashes, headlining eight new women's records.  Lee established new meet standards in the 400-meter dash (0:58.12) and long jump (5.60m), while Chappell-Dick beat the former mile run meet record by more than four-seconds (5:03.54). The Eagles' Kristen Trice eclipsed a 16-year championship mark in the triple jump (11.31m).

EMU's Richard Robinson highlights the record-setters on the men's side, establishing new overall and meet standards in the 60-meter hurdles (0:08.28). Roanoke College's Harrison Toney, the ODAC cross country individual champion, put his name next to the 5,000-meter run record (15:02.42).  Virginia Wesleyan College's team of Chrishaud Hawkins, AJ Ramirez, Marquis Sivels, and Trey White claimed the best championship 4x400-meter relay time (3:21.96) in ODAC history.

Lee, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., competed in six events for the Generals, scoring points in each.  In addition to her record-setting gold medals in the 400-meter dash and long jump, Lee added a second place finish in the triple jump (11.19m), third in the 200-meter dash (0:26.08), and eighth in the 60-meter dash (0:08.78).  She joined teammates Kara Farroni, Kaleigh Hinton, and Catherine Fonvielle in the 4x400-meter relay in placing third (4:07.00).

Heizer, a senior from Staunton, Va., won both throwing events by wide margins on Sunday afternoon.  He eclipsed the 50-foot mark in the shot put, throwing the apparatus 15.81 meters.  He again dominated in the weight throw, registering a toss of 15.06 meters.  Both throws were personal-bests for Heizer and improved upon his No. 2 rankings in EMU's all-time record books.

Yates, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., took to the track twice for the Generals.  She won the 3,000-meter run by nearly 14-seconds, posting a time of 10:29.99.  She also finished third in the mile run at 5:24.40.

Womack, a freshman from Roanoke, Va., won twice and finished second in a third event.  He stopped the watches first in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 0:06.92 towards a 0.07-second victory.  He out-leaped the field in the long jump, crashing into the sand 6.98 meters from where he began his jump.  That mark won by just 0.02 meters.  Womack added a second-place performance in the 200-meter dash in 0:22.50.
