FOREST, Va. --- Over the past two seasons, 16 combined conference overall and championship records have fallen in Salem, Va. ODAC teams return to the Kerr-Cregger Field House at Roanoke College on Sunday as league athletes look to establish new career-bests at the 2019 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The meet schedule is flipped by gender for 2019 with men's events preceding the women's disciplines once the track events begin. The championships open with field events at 12:00 p.m. Competition will be staggered thru the dual 16-event affair to take advantage of space in the field and jumps areas. Track events are slated for a 2:00 p.m. start following the meet's official welcome.

Winners of the team trophies have been consistent over the past several years. Washington and Lee collected 33 points over the final two events to overtake Bridgewater and win its second straight mens' crown a season ago. The Eagles, on the other hand, needed much less drama in the women's ledger on the way to hoisting their fifth straight piece of league hardware.
While the 2017 championships featured 13 record-setting performances in the first season at Kerr-Cregger, three more standards were established in 2018. Roanoke sprinter and eventual national runner-up in the 60-meter dash, Quinn Harlan, reset both the ODAC overall and meet records in the event at 0:07.46 on the way to claiming ODAC Women's Rookie of the Meet honors. The remaining mark also came in the 60-meter dash, this time on the men's side. Bridgewater's Davonta Womack, the ODAC Men's Track Athlete of the Meet, tied the championship record of 0:06.84 posted by Guilford's Johnathan Smith in 2012.

In addition to Harlan and Womack, Eastern Mennonite jumper Grant Amoateng returns to defend his ODAC Men's Field Athlete of the Meet mantle. He is positioned well in both horizontal jumps, including #1 in the triple jump at 14.14 meters (46-4.75). That mark slots 18th in NCAA Division III. He is seeded fourth (xxx) in the ODAC in the long jump.
Harlan owns the best national ranking of any competitor entering Sunday. The Maroons' sophomore is on schedule for another appearance at the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter dash as she ranks third in the country at 0:07.69. She will also compete in the 200-meter dash at ODAC's, where she is seeded fourth (26.78).
Womack will have the busiest workload of the three returning award winners with a four-event schedule ahead of him. He is the top seed in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and ranks second in the long jump. He's also an option for the Eagles in the 4x400-meter relay. Womack is currently ranked eighth in Division III in the 60-dash (0:06.89) and 33rd in the 200-dash (0:22.40 for ODAC ranking; 0:22.01 for track size in national listing). He's also 43rd in the long jump (6.89m - 22-7.25), trailing only W&L's Nick Greenberg (6.94m - 22-9.25).
Several athletes have their eyes set on this season's awards in addition to Amoateng, Harlan, and Womack. Look out for Bridgewater's Jamie Hiegel and Calista Ariel in the men's and women's distance races, respectively. Hiegel, the two-time reigning ODAC men's cross country champion, is the top seed in the 3,000-meter (8:39.15) and 5,000-meter (15:16.40) runs. Ariel, who won the ODAC women's cross country title in November, tops the ODAC charts in three events and is set to compete in each on Sunday in addition to being an option in the 4x400-meter relay. Ariel is #1 in the mile (5:11.20), 3,000-meter (10:18.54), and 5,000-meter (17:33.61) runs. Her 5K time is 21st in the country, while her 3K time sits 43rd.
Roanoke's Mara Briggs hopes to use the high jump competition as a spring board to a NCAA berth. An All-American outdoors in 2018, Briggs won the 2018 ODAC title at 1.63 meters. Her seed height (1.65m) is already better and ranked 19th in the country, just 0.02 off the conference championship record.
In the pole vault, Lynchburg's Maddie VanAken and Washington and Lee's Joe O'Connor have separated from the pack. VanAken tops the women's side at 3.65 meters (11-11.75), a mark which currently stands 0.25 meters (10-inches) higher than 2018 champion Lindsey Baxter from Roanoke. VanAken's mark is slotted 22nd in the country, leaving her just outside the top-20 cutoff line for an invitation to compete at the NCAA meet. O'Connor enters with a league-best and nationally 33rd-ranked heigh of 4.56 meters (14-11.50). That is 0.45 meters (1-5.75) higher that teammate Drew Pranka and Roanoke's Corbin Turner in second at 4.11 meters (13-5.75).
Bridgewater's Emily Valle has come on over the past few weeks. She is the #1 seed in the 60-meter hurdles (9.10), second in the 200-meter dash (26.53), third in the 60-meter dash (7.99), and fourth in the long jump (4.98m - 16-4.25). Her hurdles time is 25th in the country.
Others to keep an eye (or two) on in the women's competition are Virginia Wesleyan's Jaylyn Lane as the top seed in the long (5.24m - 17-2.25) and triple (11.04m - 36-2.75) jumps, Shenandoah's Shamyra Wilkerson as #1 in the 200-meter (26.27) and #2 in the 60-meter (7.87 - ranked 33rd nationally) dashes, and Lynchburg's Endasia Mitchell as the top option in the 400-meter dash (59.58) and 800-meter run (2:21.72).
On the men's side, Randolph's Darren Petty is #1 and ranked 37th nationally in the 60-meter hurdles at 0:08.37. He's also second and 14th nationally in the 60-meter dash (14). Virginia Wesleyan's Curtis Dudley adds further depth to the 60-dash at 0.06.97, which is 3rd in the ODAC and 34th in Division III.
Others to watch included W&L's Donovan Fiore as the top 400-meter dash (50.51) option and 2nd-fast 200-meter dash (22.52) with a time when converted (22.130 for track size ranks 41st. Lynchburg's Reid Sharkey is first in the mile (4:21.62) and fourth in the 800-meter run (1:59.27), and W&L's Cooper Baird is first in the 800-run (1:57.96) and fifth in the mile (4:28.39). Emory & Henry College, new to the track ranks in 2018-19, could see its first ODAC champion if Edward Rajner makes good on his top billing in the shot put (14.42m - 47-3.75).
