Washington and Lee Enters as Top Seed
FOREST, Va. --- Defending ODAC champion
Washington and Lee University enters the 2011 ODAC Men’s
Tennis Tournament as the top seed following a 9-0 record in
conference play. The Generals, who are 11-2 throughout all
spring matches, are tied for 30th in the latest ITA NCAA
Division III National Poll and seventh in the Atlantic South
Region.
Hampden-Sydney (9-3 overall, 8-1 ODAC), ranked 11th in
the region, follows W&L as the second seed. Both squads
feature players rated in the ITA Atlantic-South Region
rankings. Bridgewater College (13-6, 7-2) and Roanoke College
(6-5, 6-3) sit alone as the third and fourth seeds, but a three-way
tie for fifth required conference tie-breakers to set the next
three seeds. Emory & Henry College (10-8, 4-5) occupies
the fifth position, while Virginia Wesleyan College (4-11, 4-5) and
Guilford College (7-9, 4-5) will play out of the sixth and seventh
seeds, respectively. Lynchburg College (4-9, 2-7) rounds out
the eight-team field.
Tournament play begins Saturday, April 16, with each of the four
quarterfinals scheduled at the campuses of the four highest
seeds. Each of the four winners will play in the semifinals
on Friday, April 22, with the championship following on Saturday,
April 23. Washington and Lee will serve as host for the final
three matches.
