Generals are Winners of 30 of 35 Awarded Men's Tennis Titles
LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Washington and Lee
men's tennis team claimed its second-straight Old Dominon Athletic
Conference title with a 5-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney on Saturday
afternoon at the W&L Outdoor Courts.
The win gave the Generals their 30th ODAC title in the 35 years
that the conference has recognized a champion.
Washington and Lee won all three doubles points and clinched the
match with wins at No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles. Junior
Jeremy Becht (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) defeated Shad Harrell, 6-1,
6-2 at No. 2 singles, while junior Brian Roberts (Potomac,
Md./Winston Churchill) ended the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ian
Sammler at No. 6 singles.
With the win, W&L improved to 15-3 overall.
Hampden-Sydney dropped to 11-4 on the season.
The Generals will receive the conference's automatic bid to the
NCAA Division III Tournament which begins on May 13. They
will be in action again on May 7 when they tune up for NCAA's with
a match at 12th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan. Action begins
at 1:00 pm.
