
LEXINGTON, Va. --- The top-seeded and
19th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team began play in the
2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday by
defeating eighth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 5-1.
The Generals carried a 2-1 lead into singles play after wins at
Nos. 2-3 doubles. In singles action, first-year Taylor Shamshiri,
senior Jeremy Becht and first-year Michael Goldstein won at Nos.
2-4, respectively, to give W&L the quarterfinal victory.
With the win, the Generals improved to 13-4 overall. Virginia
Wesleyan dropped to 9-11.
Washington and Lee advances to the semifinals and finals at
Randolph-Macon on Saturday and Sunday. The Generals will face
either fourth-seeded Emory & Henry or fifth-seeded
Randolph-Macon.
