
BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Fourth-seeded Emory
& Henry College (15-6) advanced to the semifinals of the 2012
Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament with a,
5-2, victory over #5 Randolph-Macon College (8-8) Sunday afternoon
at the Country Club of Bristol.
With the win, the Wasps are now set to face the top-seeded and
19th-ranked Generals of Washington and Lee University. The match
will take place on the campus of Randolph-Macon on Saturday, April
28.
Emory & Henry got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion
of the match. E&H juniors Adam
Henderson and Matt Nelson clamed an 8-5 win at
number one doubles over Mederick Ceril and Chandler Weston, while
Wasp seniors Chip Wintringham and Mike
Young won by an 8-1 score over Ira Usry and Connor Hoerr at
the second doubles flight.
R-MC's Frank Donnelly and Joe Cox were victorious, 8-6, over
juniors Webster Gilley and Zach Eccher.
The Wasps picked up three wins in singles play to complete the
match win. Wintringham blanked Weston (6-0, 6-0) at number two
singles while Young won (6-2, 6-4) over Usry at the fourth pairing.
Henderson won by retirement in the first set after Hoerr had an
injury and could not continue.
The Yellow Jackets got their other point at number one singles as
Ceril defeated Nelson (6-4, 6-2).
The fifth and sixth singles flights were left unfinished due to the
match reaching a decision befor their completion.
