W&L Men's Tennis Wins ODAC Crown

Generals Receive Automatic Bid To NCAA Tournament

ASHLAND, Va. --- Top-seeded Washington and Lee produced a 5-0 victory over second-seeded Bridgewater to claim the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's tennis championship on Sunday morning at Randolph-Macon.

The win gives the Generals their third straight conference title and 31st ODAC crown in the 36 years the conference has recognized a champion.

Just like the semifinal win over Emory & Henry, W&L easily swept the doubles competition and took No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match.  Senior Ben Fass notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, while classmate Brian Roberts tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

The win improved the Generals to 15-4 overall, while Bridgewater slipped to 13-6 for the year.

Washington and Lee earns the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The NCAA Tournament begins on May 11-13 with the first, second and third rounds.
