Washington and Lee Tops Va. Wesleyan for 35th ODAC Men's Tennis Crown

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The second-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team avenged its earlier loss to Virginia Wesleyan, knocking off the top-seeded Marlins in the championship match of the 2016 ODAC Tournament at the W&L Courts on Sunday.

The Generals took two of the three doubles matches with a big 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles by the tandem of senior Joe Siami (Louisville, Ky. / St. Xavier) and junior Michael Lukas (Manitowoc, Wisc. / University School of Milwaukee) for a 2-1 lead.

In singles action, senior Thomas Johnson (Greenville, S.C. / Christ Church Episcopal) posted a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2, first-year Zack Ely (Norwalk, Conn. / Brien McMahon) notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 and Siami registered a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 5 to close out the match.

The team victory clinched W&L's seventh straight league crown and the program's 35th all-time ODAC title.  In the process, the Generals improved to 15-8, while VWC fell to 17-7.

W&L, which receives the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, will now wait to see who it plays in the NCAA first round and where the game will be played.
