Generals Lead Eight Team Field in New ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament Format

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University last lost an ODAC regular season game more than a decade ago as the Generals command the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament following a 10th straight unbeaten run (8-0) through their league slate.

Washington and Lee, ranked second in Division III by the IWLCA, is joined by nationally 16th-ranked Roanoke College (7-1) with byes through the first two rounds of play as top two seeds in the conference's new tournament format (see below for details).

There was plenty of movement on the final day with eight of the league's teams in action on Wednesday evening. Shenandoah University (6-2) locked up the third seed with a win over Randolph-Macon College (4-4). The University of Lynchburg (5-3) secured fourth position with its victory at Virginia Wesleyan University (3-5). Both sets of Hornets will host quarterfinal action on Tuesday.

Seeding for spots five, six, and seven required league tiebreakers after idle Averett University was joined by Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon at 4-4 in the league table. All three teams played each other during the regular season in the ODAC's unbalanced schedule and had differing outcomes, allowing for head-to-head results to break the stalemate.

The Yellow Jackets defeated both Averett (21-11) and Bridgewater (22-12) in conference play, earning R-MC the fifth seed and a date with eighth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the first round on Saturday in Ashland. Bridgewater went 1-1 in the tied scenario with their loss to R-MC paired with a 22-10 win over Averett. The Eagles will play as the sixth seeded and host the seventh-seeded Cougars in the first round.

The ODAC women's lacrosse tournament will be competed in a new format this season. No longer will there be a "final four" structure to determine the conference champion. There will be at least one day off in between all games. Additionally, the first round moves to a weekend date and will feature the four lowest seeded teams. Seeds 3-4 receive a bye into the quarterfinals on Tuesday and the top two seeds do not play until they host the semifinals on Friday. The championship will be at the highest remaining seed in the tournament on Sunday. Click HERE to get a look at the bracket.
