ASHLAND, Va. --- The Randolph-Macon
Volleyball team topped visiting Shenandoah, 3-0, Wednesday evening
in the quarterfinals of the 2012 ODAC Championship
Tournament. The victory advances top-seeded R-MC to the
semifinal round which they will host along with finals.
By virtue of being the top-seed in the tournament, R-MC will take
on No. 4 Lynchburg at 10:30 a.m. in Crenshaw Gym.
LC topped No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1, at home on
Wednesday.
No. 2 Washington and Lee and No. 3 Bridgewater will do battle in
the other semifinal at 10:30 a.m. in R-MC's Brock
Center. The two winners will meet in the league
championship at 3:00 p.m. in Crenshaw.
Mallory Carter led all players with 14 kills on the evening.
The senior outside hitter converted on 14-of-30 chances with
just two errors. Jessica Sears and Tori Puryear
each had seven kills in the victory, while Katie Rossberg had five
kills and Courtney Lowers chipped in with four winners.
Riley Martin dished out 17 assists while Bailey Troia
had 14 helpers.
Defensively, Carter had 17 digs, Sears had 10 and Martin added
six. Puryear had one block solo and five assisted
blocks as well for R-MC.
The Hornets were paced by Megan Gillispie's
seven kills. Rachel Gross recorded nine digs and
registered three blocks.
