Washington and Lee Wins Second Straight ODAC Volleyball Title

LEXINGTON, Va. --- For the second straight year and the 14th time in program history, the Washington and Lee volleyball team is the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champions, following a 3-0 victory over Lynchburg in the finals on Saturday at the Warner Center.

The Generals (28-7) entered the match as the top seed and won three close sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) to beat the Hornets (14-13) in the championship match for the second straight season. The Blue and White also earned the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the victory.

After winning the first two sets, W&L held a 24-18 lead in the third, but Lynchburg fought off two championship points to close the gap to 24-20. The Generals secured the contest with senior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) setting the ball to senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) for a kill and the title.

The Blue and White used a balanced attack to beat the Hornets. The squad totaled a .333 hitting percentage and five players had at least eight kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) led the team with 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) and first-year middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) each recorded nine. Shand also registered a match-high six blocks and Lausberg tallied four.

Boles and senior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) notched eight kills apiece with Rouse only needing 11 attempts to reach the total. She also had nine digs to lead the team. Meleski recorded 39 assists and six digs.

With their play through all three rounds of the tournament, Boles, Meleski and Shand each earned ODAC All-Tournament Team honors.
