Lynchburg Tops Roanoke in Four Sets to Advance to Semifinals

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The fourth-seeded Lynchburg College volleyball team defeated #5 Roanoke College 25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 25-11 Wednesday evening in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.

The first set was tied at 22 all, but LC won the final three points to take the all-important first game. The Hornets took a six-point lead midway through the second set and were never challenged, while the Maroons led 6-0 in the third set and never trailed. LC controlled the deciding fourth game from the start, taking an 8-1 lead en route to the victory.

Senior Aricquel Payne slammed a team-high 13 kills, one of four Hornets with double figures.Amanda Perry had 11 kills and five digs while Sierra Strathy and Jennifer Garrett each had 10 kills.Mackenzie Ross had 42 assists, Sam Page had 16 digs and Brittany Crawford had 15 digs.

Brooke Bostwick paced Roanoke (21-9) with 10 kills, and Sarah Long had nine. Jessica Block tallied 24 assists and Ryan Hedgpeth contributed 19 digs.

Lynchburg (18-11) advances into the ODAC Tournament Semifinals to face top-seeded Randolph-Macon College Saturday. The Yellow Jackets will host the final four teams on their campus, with semifinal and final game times to be announced.
