Lowers Leads R-MC into ODAC Title Match

ASHLAND, Va. --- Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) recorded 26 kills as the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team defeated Roanoke 3-0 Saturday morning to advance to the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship match.

The Yellow Jackets (24-7) swept the Maroons (22-6) with scores of 25-16 in each set.

R-MC will face No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan tonight, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. in Crenshaw Gymnasium. The Marlins defeated third-seeded Washington and Lee 3-0 in the second semifinal match.

The score was tied at 2-2 in the first set before the Yellow Jackets gained the advantage with a 3-0 spurt. R-MC maintained the lead at 12-9 and expanded its margin with a 6-1 run. The Yellow Jackets claimed the set, 25-16.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second set with a 10-4 run. The Maroons came within four point at 10-6 before R-MC expanded its lead to seven points at 14-7. The Yellow Jackets held a 20-13 advantage and used a 4-0 spurt to reach 24-13. R-MC won the second set, 25-16.

The score was tied at 3-3 and 7-all in the third set. R-MC used a 4-0 spurt to pull ahead, 11-7. Lowers served three straight points during the run. The Maroons pulled within two points at 15-13 before the Yellow Jackets responded with a 10-3 spurt and took the third set, 25-16, to advance to the championship match.

Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) registered 21 assists and 12 digs for R-MC.  Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) added 11 digs.

R-MC tallied 19 blocks. Sophomore Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) led the Yellow Jackets with seven total blocks. Senior Addie Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) added three assisted blocks and one solo block.

Sydney Daniel led Roanoke with nine kills, while Alexandra Martin had a team-best 18 digs.
