Washington and Lee Tops Lynchburg to Earn Berth in ODAC Title Match

ASHLAND, Va. --- The second-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team held third-seeded Lynchburg to a .042 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 victory on Friday in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Generals (24-9) hit .232 as a team in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 victory. W&L had 34 kills and 12 errors on 95 attempts. The Blue and White's defense improved with each set, holding the Hornets (19-10) to a -.095 hitting percentage in the third set.

For the match, LC had 28 kills and 23 errors on 107 attempts. W&L totaled seven team blocks in the contest and had 39 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) led the Generals with a double-double. She had 11 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .375. First-year outside hitter Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) added nine kills and seven digs.

Senior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) notched a match-high five blocks. First-year setter Mollie Ray (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) totaled 28 assists and three aces, while junior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) had seven digs.

Senior outside hitter Jennifer Garrett notched a match-high 14 kills and 11 digs to pace the Hornets. Junior setter Lynn Walsh had 16 assists, and first-year defensive specialist Ragan Rudisill totaled nine digs.

The Generals will take on top-seeded Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the ODAC Championship match at Crenshaw Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets defeated Bridgewater, 3-0, in the other semifinal earlier on Friday.
