Randolph-Macon Lifts Seventh ODAC Volleyball Trophy

DANVILLE, Va. --- Fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College is back atop the ODAC women's volleyball podium as the Yellow Jackets battled through three tough sets to defeat second-seeded Averett University, 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 26-24), in Danville on Sunday afternoon.

The victory for Randolph-Macon (23-6) marks its seventh overall ODAC volleyball title and first since hoisting the last of three straight trophies in 2017. While the Yellow Jackets have now made 13 appearances in the final league match of the season, this was the first championship experience for Averett (20-11) since the Cougars joined the ODAC in July as the conference's 15th full-time member.

Randolph-Macon also receives the ODAC's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament. The selection show to announce the 64-team bracket will be on Monday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

The tone for Sunday's showdown was set early with an extended first set. Randolph-Macon hit .310 with 18 kills in the opening stanza, out-pacing the Cougars 14 winners at a .211 clip. Neither team really attacked well in the second set. Averett collected two more kills (13-11) than the Yellow Jackets with neither unit particularly efficient (.044 for AU to .133 for R-MC). Errors proved the major difference with R-MC committing five fewer (5-11) miscues on the same amount of attempts (45).

The final frame was a back-and-forth with neither team enjoying more than a three-point advantage. Averett led late at 23-22, but a kill by ODAC Player of the Year Grace Parker and an ace from Mia Zazzero set up the Yellow Jackets with the first of two match points. Averett quelled the first chance with a kill by Rachel Green, but one more Parker kill was met with an attack error by the Cougars on R-MC's second match point to clinch the trophy celebration for Randolph-Macon.

Parker led all players with 13 kills despite being held well below (.106) her normally efficient .278 attack percentage. She added 12 digs to go with match-highs of five blocks and three aces to account for a match-best 18.5 points. Zazzero joined Parker and libero Leslie Currie on the All-Tournament Team. Zazzero racked up seven kills without an error on 20 swings for a .350 percentage, while Currie picked up a team-best 14 digs. Gracyn Draney added eight kills and four blocks. Setter Milly Mach dished out 37 assists to go with 10 digs and a block.

Sarah Marlow led Averett with 11 kills to go with six digs and three blocks. She and Morgan Barnes tied for team-high honors with 12.5 points. Barnes registered nine kills with six digs and three blocks including two solo rejections. Emma Nash, who was joined by libero Erin Gray on the All-Tournament Team, chipped in seven kills and 10 digs. Gray posted a match-high 21 digs. Setters Kinsley Stevens (23) and Dayton Moore (11) combined to hand out 34 assists.
