Bridgewater Sweeps ODAC Cross Country Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- For the second straight year, Bridgewater College put its stamp on both races at the ODAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships as the Eagles corralled both titles on a rainy, windy, cold day in Greensboro.  BC's Kaylee Kubisiak repeated as the women's individual champion, while Washington and Lee University's Ian McDonald secured the men's crown.  Both were named ODAC Runners of the Year.

Kubisiak was joined by her head coach, Brian Flynn, and men's first year runner Trey Gibson as Eagle award winners.  Flynn was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year on both the men's and women's sides and Gibson took home ODAC Men's Rookie of the Year accolades as the top first year finisher.  Eastern Mennonite University athletes captured the remaining three honors.  Kat Lehman earned ODAC Women's Rookie of the Year status, while Jacob Landis and Hannah Chappell-Dick took home the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

Three Eagles placed inside the top-six in the women's race, all earning All-ODAC First Team honors.  Kubisiak led the charge with a time of 23:35.6 on the rain-soaked six-kilometer course on Guilford College's campus.  Teammates Zanny Ludtke (24:33.3) and Makenzie MacDonald (24:54.2) placed fourth and sixth, respectively.  Emily Mellman (25:39.2) and Lauren Johnson (25:40.6) completed BC's scoring five, leading the Eagles to a 13-point victory over second place EMU, 42-to-55.

Other women's runners earning first time honors include EMU's duo of Chappell-Dick (2nd; 23:45.1) and Lehman (3rd; 24:10.8), Caity Ashley (5th; 24:33.3) from Roanoke College, and Liz Wade (24:54.2) from Virginia Wesleyan College.

Bridgewater's men's crown can be attributed to its top seven runners earning All-ODAC First or Second Team honors, leading the Eagles to 37 points, 26 tallies clear of EMU (63) in second after the eight kilometer run.  Luke Sohl (5th; 26:48.8), Matt Denlinger (6th; 26:51.9) and Keith Thomas (26:52.3) picked up first team laurels, while Gibson (8th; 26:54.8), Tim Miller (11th; 27:16.0), Aaron Hill (12th; 27:26.8) and Connor Maguder (13th; 27:32.1) earned second team recognition.

The remaining first team honorees joining McDonald and BC's trio are Harrison Toney (2nd; 26:27.3) from Roanoke, Ryan Gehman (3rd; 26:28.7) from EMU, and Mac Strehler (4th; 26:44.4) from W&L.
