Lynchburg Makes History in Sweeping ODAC Cross Country Titles

Lagunas Repeats as Women's Champ, Csorba Claims Men's Crown

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- History was made on Saturday at Kernstown Battlefield at the 2022 ODAC Cross Country Championships. The University of Lynchburg swept both titles for the second straight season, marking the ninth consecutive year that one school has hoisted both league trophies.

But this season's sweep featured an added bonus. Lynchburg runners finished first-thru-fifth in BOTH races, racking up the minimum 15 points to lead the team table. This is the first time in ODAC men's cross country championship history and second time in women's league event annals (1994) that a school earned the minimum point allotment.

Lynchburg has now won a record 19 men's cross country championships, while its women's total improves to eight trophies, trailing only Washington and Lee University's 19 crowns.

Kelsey Lagunas clutched her second straight ODAC Runner of the Meet award as the individual champion. She clocked a time of 21:55.8 on the six-kilometer course. Lynchburg teammate Hailey Smith earned ODAC Rookie of the Meet laurels after placing 10th at 23:14.6 to earn All-ODAC Second Team recognition. W&L's Carolyn Todd collected ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction.

Lynchburg's Frank Csorba, who earlier this season became the only ODAC runner to crack 24 minutes on an eight-kilometer course in league history, won the men's individual title with a time of 25:38.4. Teammate Jonathan Cobb received ODAC Rookie of the Meet accolades in finishing ninth at 26:07.1 to earn second team recognition. W&L's Josh Fingerhut won ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
