February 25, 2018
Junior Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va. / Heritage) made a baseline drive to break a 68-68 tie with 24 seconds remaining in the game to propel Randolph-Macon to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship in Salem, Va. on Sunday afternoon. It is R-MC's ninth ODAC Tournament Championship and first since 2014. It also avenged an earlier loss to the Wasps 84-77 on February 3 in Crenshaw Gym.

The #4 Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Team (22-6) made history Sunday afternoon, winning its first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship by a 72-70 score over second-seeded Roanoke College (20-8).

Roanoke College forward Josh Freund and Randolph-Macon College mentor Josh Merkel headline the 2018 All-ODAC Men's Basketball Awards, announced by the ODAC on Friday morning. Freund was named the Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year, while Merkel received Bob Johnson Coach of the Year honors. Bridgewater College guard Dimetri Chambers was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year, while Washington and Lee University forward Nicholas George earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

Just five Marlins scored points on Thursday evening in the Salem Civic Center, but it was the right five as sixth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University upset third-seeded Lynchburg College, 61-51, in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals. VWU improves to 13-13 on the season and moves on to face Randolph-Macon College (20-5) in the semifinals on Saturday. LC's season comes to a close at 20-6, the Hornets third straight 20-win season.

Sophomore Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) registered her 24th double-double of the season and tied the ODAC Tournament record for rebounds in a game with 24 as the second-seeded Randolph-Macon women's basketball team eliminated No. 7 Bridgewater 76-58 Thursday evening in the quarterfinals of the 2018 ODAC Tournament at the Salem Civic Center.

Sophomore forward Andy Smithey (Charlotte, N.C. / Saint Mary's School) scored a career-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the fifth-seeded Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a 79-77 victory over fourth-seeded Guilford in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Salem Civic Center.

The #1 Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (21-5) advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 79-53 win over ninth-seeded Shenandoah University (12-15) Thursday afternoon.

Randolph-Macon College center Kelly Williams and Emory & Henry College head coach Anne Crutchfield headline the 2018 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Awards, announced by the ODAC on Thursday morning. Williams was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while Crutchfield received ODAC Coach of the Year honors. Washington and Lee University garnered the remaining two laurels with guard Katie Popp earning ODAC Rookie of the Year distinction and fellow backcourt mate Emily Perszyk featuring as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Emory & Henry College won for the ninth straight outing on Saturday afternoon, eliminating the possibility for a tie at the top of the standings and securing the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. There were, however, three other ties that helped shape the tournament field.

Four different ties dotted the final men's basketball standings, dictating much of the seeding in the upcoming ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Unlike last season, there was not a tie that included the top seed with Randolph-Macon College earning this season's top billing.
