Top-Seeded RC Cruises Past Randolph in ODAC Title Game

Maroons to Face Virginia Wesleyan, Look to Win Ninth ODAC Title

SALEM, Va. --- The Roanoke College men's soccer team knocked off the defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champions, Randolph College, 3-0 in the ODAC Semifinals on Thursday.  They will play Virginia Wesleyan in the Championship game of the ODAC Tournament on Sunday, November 4.

The Maroons (12-4-1) are 9-1-1 in the last 11 games and are getting ready to enter their 11th
ODAC Championship game since the tournament was started in 1989.  In the 10 previous attempts in the ODAC Championship game, Roanoke has won six of those games.  Roanoke had lost the last two meetings against Randolph, both by the score of 2-1, and now have a 3-2-1 record over the WildCats.

The Maroons scored their first goal of the night at the 9:06 mark when
Patrick Bain scored the eventual game winner off a pass from AJ Tierce.  Bain's goal marks his third of the season.

In the second half,
Brian White put away two more goals for Roanoke.  The first came at 69:40, when White took a shot across the face of the goal that deflected off of a WildCat defender, putting the Maroons up 2-0.  Just two minutes later, White had a one-on-one chance with the keeper, converting the attempt to score his fifth goal of the season, and increase the lead to 3-0.

Both teams took nine shots, but the Maroons led in shots on goal 5-3.
Garrett Eldridge and Bain led the team with three shots each, followed by Brian White with two and Chris Conover with one.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in goal and had three saves.  Randolph's (9-7-3) Corey Sindle led the WildCats in shots with three, one of which was on goal.

The Maroons host the ODAC Championship game on Sunday, November 4
, as they welcome the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan to Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
