W&L Defeats H-SC, 1-0, in ODAC Quarterfinal Action

LEXINGTON, Va. --- Fourth-seeded Washington and Lee advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC men's soccer tournament for the second-straight year with a 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon at the Watt Field.

The Generals improve to 10-2-5 overall and 8-2-2 in the ODAC, while H-SC ends its season 9-6-3 overall and 6-4-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, the Generals came out strong, registering six shots. After the Blue and White were awarded a throw-in in the 78th minute, senior midfielder Parker Wolfinger tucked the ball into the left corner of the net to give the Generals a 1-0 lead with a little over 12 minutes to go.

The Generals defense held strong the rest of the match, allowing the Tigers to take only two shots. The Blue and White held a 15-12 advantage in shots, while both teams notched four corner kicks.

Junior keeper Albert Civitarese played all 90 minutes and made one save to preserve his sixth shutout of the season. First-year Cameron McFarlane started and played the entirety in goal for the Tigers, making 5 saves with one goal allowed. 

The Generals will either play Guilford or Randolph for an ODAC Tournament Semifinal match up on Wednesday.  The time is yet to be determined.
