Top-Seded Generals Defeat Royals, Slated to Host Final Four

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The top-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over eighth-seeded Eastern Mennonite in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.

First-year midfielder Will Hamryka (Dawsonville, Ga. / Greater Atlanta Christian School) tallied the game-winner in the 17th minute when he found the back of the net off of a cross from first-year midfielder Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C. / Independence). The Generals (13-3-2) took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

W&L added an insurance goal at the 66:32 mark when junior forward Geinda Smith (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) found sophomore midfielder Austin Gilbert (Marshfield, Wis. / Marshfield) to reach the final margin.

For the contest, Washington and Lee held a 35-3 advantage in shots and took 11 corner kicks as opposed to Eastern Mennonite's (6-12-2) one.

Sophomore keeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) saw all 90 minutes of action for the Generals and finished with two saves. Sophomore goalie Daniel Nyce (Harrisonburg, Va. / Eastern Mennonite) suffered the loss for the Royals, but totaled 13 saves in the match.

W&L will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts the victor of No.4 Lynchburg vs. No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament at 11:00 am.
