Lynchburg Earns Top Seed for Second Straight Season

FOREST, Va. --- The final day of the conference regular season provided plenty of intrigue with all six games having a bearing towards the tournament field makeup. In the end, a familiar squad sits atop the chart with Lynchburg College securing the top seed in the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament for a second straight season.

Lynchburg managed just one point with a draw at Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday night, but that's all the Hornets needed to lock up the top seed outright. Roanoke College, despite picking up all three standings points with a 3-1 win over Emory & Henry, came up one tally short of tying Lynchburg and will enter as the two seed.

Washington and Lee University went to Hampden-Sydney College and pulled out a 1-0 victory to lock up the third seed. That result also knocked the Tigers from a hosting opportunity as they will play as the fifth seed and travel to fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College in the quarterfinals. The Yellow Jackets secured their spot with a 1-1 draw at Bridgewater. The Eagles sit in sixth position in the eight-team affair and prepare for a quick jog down I-81 for a quarterfinal date with Washington and Lee.

The final two spots were arguably the most hotly-contested on Tuesday with three teams vying for tournament entry. Eastern Mennonite and Randolph College did their parts with wins over Shenandoah University and Guilford College, respectively, leaving them tied with 12 standings points. Virginia Wesleyan University needed a win over Lynchburg to join that fray, but came away with one point after a 0-0 draw with the top-seeded Hornets.

Applying conference tiebreakers to Randolph and EMU, the WildCats will play as the seventh seed following their head-to-head victory (4-2) over the Royals during the regular season. Randolph will drive over to Roanoke for quarterfinal play, while Eastern Mennonite travels to Lynchburg.

Tournament play begins on Saturday, October 28, with four quarterfinal matchups. The highest remaining seed following the quarterfinals will host both the semifinals and championship on Saturday and Sunday, November 4-5.
