Maroons to Face Virginia Wesleyan in Semifinals on Wednesday

SALEM, Va, --- The Roanoke College women’s soccer team keeps their season alive with a 2-0 victory over Guilford in the ODAC Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium.  The Maroons will advance to the conference semifinals with a 14-4-1 record.

Roanoke, which finished the season 6-2 at home this season, will take on Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday in Virginia Beach.  They held a 9-1 shots advantage and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cindy Suttora scored the eventual game-winner in the 28th minute as she got an advance from Carmen Graves and dribbled past a defender to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.  The goal, which fell in to the left side past the Quaker goalkeeper, was her fifth of the season.

Graves put the Quakers away for good in the 84th minute off an assist from fellow junior Rebekah Adams to end the scoring.  It was a team-best ninth goal of the season for Graves and a team-high fifth assists for Adams.

Carolyn Sarabacher had one save for the Maroons, while Amy Baker tallied three saves for the Quakers.  Both Graves and Suttora finished with two shots on goal.  Bri Eilman had the only shot on goal for Guilford.

The women will take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Semifinals on Wednesday in Virginia Beach.  Game time will be announced at a later time.
