Maroons to Face Virginia Wesleyan in Semifinals on Wednesday
SALEM, Va, --- The Roanoke College
women’s soccer team keeps their season alive with a 2-0
victory over Guilford in the ODAC Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon
at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons will advance to the conference
semifinals with a 14-4-1 record.
Roanoke, which finished the season 6-2 at home this season, will
take on Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday in Virginia Beach.
They held a 9-1 shots advantage and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Cindy Suttora scored the eventual game-winner in the
28th minute as she got an advance from Carmen
Graves and dribbled past a defender to give the Maroons a 1-0
lead. The goal, which fell in to the left side past the
Quaker goalkeeper, was her fifth of the season.
Graves put the Quakers away for good in the
84th minute off an assist from fellow
junior Rebekah Adams to end the scoring. It was a
team-best ninth goal of the season for Graves and a team-high fifth
assists for Adams.
Carolyn Sarabacher had one save for the Maroons, while Amy
Baker tallied three saves for the Quakers. Both Graves and
Suttora finished with two shots on goal. Bri Eilman had the
only shot on goal for Guilford.
The women will take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan in the
ODAC Semifinals on Wednesday in Virginia Beach. Game time
will be announced at a later time.
