W&L Upsets BC with 2-0 Shutout

Generals to Meet Lynchburg in the Semifinals on Wednesday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Fifth-seeded Washington and Lee advanced in the ODAC women's soccer tournament and avenged a loss from one week ago with a 2-0 victory over fourth-seeded Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at the Jopson Athletic Complex.

The Generals (13-3-2) fell to the Eagles (13-5-1) last Saturday in the regular-season finale by a score of 3-0, but emerged with the win to advance to the semifinals.

First-year forward Holley Beasley gave W&L a 1-0 lead when she scored unassisted in the 50th minute.  First-year midfielder Katie Rossi then gave the Generals an insurance goal when she slipped an unassisted tally past BC goalkeeper Mackenzie Gates in the 88th minute for her fifth goal of the season.

Washington and Lee held an 18-7 advantage in shots and took eight corner kicks as opposed to none for the Eagles.  Senior goalkeeper Emily Leary played all 90 minutes and made one save to preserve her 15th shutout of the season.

Cari Hensley started and played the first 79:39 in goal for Bridgewater, making seven saves with one goal allowed.  Gates played the final 10:21 and notched one save.

The Generals will now travel to top-seeded Lynchburg College for an ODAC Tournament Semifinal match up on Wednesday.  The time is yet to be determined.
